Conserving at work:
1. When not in use, office equipment uses energy; and the production of that energy frees contaminants to the athmosphere. Unless it is required for normal operations, you can use power strips to connect several items together, so when you are done, at the end of the day, turn the power strip off.
2. Same as if it was your home, if you are a manager or purchasing agent for your office, ensure that your new office euipment has energy saving features, and use them.
3. Ask the building manager if the building has earned the Energy Star Rating, and if not, what is the plan to achive it. Energy efficient buildings save about 35% in energy.
4. Not everybody lives in isolation today, if you live near trusted coworkers, carpool. Or use mass transport systems where available. It will save you money in gasoline.
5. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Use those funny looking green bins. When you do, you are helping conserve our environment. Recycle the copier and laser printers toner cartridges. There are some companies that will also give you a discount on ink jet cartridges when you return the used one.
These are very simple ways to make a difference at work. These suggestions were copied from the Environmental Protection Agency’s web-site.
